CLCC President’s Message
Dear friends and neighbors,
With Thanksgiving come and gone, and Christmas Tree Island all lit up, I’d like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season. Kicking the celebrations off recently, the Cedar Lake bar featured the classic rock sounds of “Kevin Compton and The Leftovers.”
The Ladies Auxiliary is holding their annual holiday party and cookie exchange on December 10th at the clubhouse. See details in this Blurb issue. Also, look for information about Cedar Lake Santa sightings in this Blurb. If you like to sing, come join the Cedar Lake carolers on Sunday, December 17th. The group meets at the west side playground and fa la la la la’s their way around the lake to the clubhouse for hot chocolate.
The CLCC board has created a committee to investigate and propose renovation of the clubhouse kitchen. The goal is to make the kitchen more functional and energy efficient. Other recent house improvements include new smart thermostats, new flooring and a fresh paint job in the anti-room off the upstairs bar (where the chairs are stored).
All of the upkeep and maintenance at the clubhouse are the work of board members and volunteers and are paid for by club dues, as well as the money raised through special events, rentals and the bar. So, as club members, we all contribute to these efforts. And for that, we can all be proud.
That said, I hope everyone has an awesome December. And whatever holiday you celebrate, I hope it’s full of love and joy. But remember, for some the holidays can be a tough time, especially if they’ve recently lost a loved one or are going through tough financial times. So, if you know someone like that, I would encourage you to reach out to them and share some holiday spirit. Because like Pa Bailey said in the movie It’s A Wonderful Life: “All you can take with you is that which you’ve given away.”

Cedar Lake Sports
Cedar Lake belongs to a local sports association called Hub Lakes. This includes 11 local lake communities which compete in numerous sports. The lake communities include Lake Arrowhead, Cedar Lake, Estling Lake, Indian Lake, Intervale, Lake Parsippany, Mountain Lakes, Rainbow Lakes, Rock Ridge Lake, Lake Valhalla and White Meadow Lake. The rivalry between these lakes has lasted for years and provides a lot of excitement and fun.
The sports and coaches for Cedar Lake are listed below. Some teams are for adults, some for children, some for men, some for women, and some co-ed. If you are a Community Club member you are eligible to play on these teams. You don’t have to be an athlete; this is for average people who just want to socialize, have fun, and get some exercise. To get involved contact the coach of the sport you’re interested in or the CLCC Sports Chairman Mike Fallon at (973) 627-2510.
Please consider becoming a Hub Lakes Booster; show your Cedar Lake spirit and cheer your team to victory! For only $15, your message will be displayed prominently on the Hub Lakes Boosters page. For more information, contact Mike Fallon at (973) 627-2510.
Members Bulletin Board
As a benefit to all CLCC members, The Blurb will include this Members Bulletin Board. Any member may submit items to be posted. This is a great way to keep your neighbors informed. For sale, for rent, garage sales, babysitting services, birthday wishes, and other announcements can be submitted. All submissions are due by the 25th of the month to be included in the following month’s issue of The Blurb. The size of notices will be dictated by available space and may be subject to editing. This space is reserved for non-commercial notices. Please send all notices to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Come Bowl With Us!
The Riverview PTA Women’s Bowling League will be starting a new season in September. Founded in 1975, it is a fun and social league for women of ALL AGES AND SKILL LEVELS. We have members that are new to the league as well as those that have been involved since the league began, but we need more. Please join this FUN-tastic league.
It is okay if you have never bowled before. You do NOT have to be a member of the PTA, nor do you have to have children in the school. Just come out for a great time. With more bowlers, new teams will be added in September.
If you are interested but not sure you can make the commitment for the whole school year, please join us as a substitute. AS A SUB, YOU CAN BOWL FOR FREE. You also have the flexibility of bowling only when you choose. Just pay the one-time Sanction Fee, and the bowling is free.
We bowl on Thursday mornings at 9:00 AM at Boonton Lanes.
We do NOT bowl on any school holidays or school closings.
We bowl at 11:00 AM when there is a delayed opening.
The league runs from September thru May.

Shop and Support the CLCC
Are you an online shopper? Did you know that your online purchases can help the Cedar Lake Community Club?
Friends in Cedar Lake,
The CLLA is supporting Holiday Express this year, specifically a non-profit center called DAWNcil which is located right here in Denville, NJ.
Let me begin by explaining who Holiday Express is!
Now in its 25th season, Holiday Express is a traveling holiday party. This year alone, they will present 100 parties between November 6th and Christmas Eve. At each event, the Holiday Express volunteer musicians along with several dozen support staff, participate in providing fun to adults and children in need, including veterans, the mentally and physically challenged, individuals in addiction and recovery programs, the isolated and the homeless.
The Holiday Express mission is to deliver music, food, gifts, financial support and friendship to those with the greatest need for the gift of human kindness during the holiday season and throughout the year.
One organization that Holiday Express paired up with this year is DAWNcil. http://dawncil.org/
As a Center for Independent Living, their four core services are advocacy, information and referral, peer support, and independent living skills training. Their other wide range of services include employment, recreational activities for adults, youth and young adults.
Having a location right here in Denville allowed me to participate in my first Holiday Express party, as well be a giving partner for this holiday season.
Their event was held Saturday, December 2.
I was told that all I needed to do is experience one event to see the power of this organization…well they were right! Joe and I volunteered to help put on an awesome holiday party for the DAWNcil young adults and families. To see the smiles on their faces just by us giving time (and dancing!), well it made us want to do more.
We want to support DAWNcil in their giving partner requests. Our goal is to be able to purchase the karaoke machine and with your generosity, have Cedar Lake be a giving partner. Monetary donations can be made in cash, or check made out to the Cedar Lake Ladies Auxiliary or through PayPal firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cash or checks can be dropped off to me at 69 Watchtower Road.
Due Date: 12/20/17.
I have included links to both Holiday Express and DAWNcil if you would like to read more about them. Or…if you see me or Joe in passing and are interested in our experiences so far, feel free to ask!
