CLCC President’s Message

Dear friends and neighbors,

It’s been a fast and furious February with the temps swinging from one extreme to the other. But that didn’t stop Cedar Lakers from pulling off three awesome fun events at the clubhouse.

Starting the month off was the annual Super Bowl/Chili Cook-off featuring 11 delectable crocks and one of the best super bowl games in recent history between two teams that practically no one in the room wanted to win and who shall both remain nameless. But what a game. Winning the cook-off was the east side’s own Gary Petrillo. The People’s Choice award went to Joanne DeCarolis. Get the full wrap-up here.

Following his victory in the Chili Cook-off, Gary’s famous meatballs were their usual hit at the Fishing Club’s annual Spaghetti Dinner. What’s next? Pancakes? Stay tuned for more fishy business.

Capping off the month was the Ladies Auxiliary’s monster Mardi Gras party. So far the only thing we know for sure is that everyone had an outrageous time. Some photos of the event have been posted on the CLCC’s Instagram.

What’s coming up? St. Patrick’s Day of course! And you don’t have to be Irish to get your green on. This year’s party is being held on Saturday, March 17th. Come enjoy a traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner, with entertainment by Irish step dancers from the Wick-Hegarty School. To make your reservation, contact Susan Ulversoy at cedarlakeclub@gmail.com or (973) 625-2381. Payment is required in advance.

If you believe in leprechauns, then you’ll really be excited about seeing the Easter
Bunny on Sunday, March 25th, courtesy of the Ladies Auxiliary. Bring your gremlins.

There is one more reason I like March. I like March because it’s the one time of year that I actually like watching basketball. And I’ll be watching many of those games down at the club bar. So, mosey on over and set a spell. But please don’t take your shoes off.

Until next time, I am reminded of a quote by the great Irish poet William Butler Yeats when he said, “There are no strangers here; only friends you haven’t yet met.”

Best regards,

Bob Vidal

CLPO Update

Share of Expense

Stockholders are reminded that the annual Share of Expense of $475 was due February 1st. Installment payments are available to meet this obligation and can be arranged by calling the CLPO office or email at clpo2@optonline.net.

For those stockholders in arrears, the CLPO has instituted new procedures for collection which were implemented January 1, 2017. Moving forward, the CLPO will continue normal collection efforts, however, will engage attorneys Dolan & Dolan as necessary to collect outstanding share of expense charges.

If payment is not received by December 31st of the year in which the payment is due, a late payment charge of 1 ½% per month will be levied. The CLPO reserves all rights to take any and all action against a stockholder in arrears, including but not limited to filing a claim of lien, filing an action in court and/or suspension of privileges for use of the CLPO’s properties and services. The CLPO will grant relief to those stockholders in arrears who have entered into an approved payment plan at the discretion of the CLPO Board of Directors. Once an account has been referred to the attorney, however, all payment plan arrangements are required to be made directly with the attorney.

HELP WANTED

The CLPO is accepting applications for Lifeguards for the summer season. Guards must be a minimum of 16 years old and hold a valid Red Cross Lifeguard/Waterfront Certification and current CPR. No experience necessary. If you lifeguarded in the past for Cedar Lake, you must re-apply each year. Please contact amystan11@gmail.com or clpo2@optonline.net if you are interested in lifeguarding for the 2018 season.

Ice Rescue

As many of you know, a husband and wife fell through the ice at the North End of the lake in mid-February in an attempt to save their dog that had wandered on the ice. Fortunately, someone on the West side witnessed the incident and heard calls for help and first responders were on the scene quickly. Thankfully, everyone is safe and doing well! Police said the rescue would not have been possible without ice rescue suits. The buoyant, rubber suit keeps rescuers warm and dry as they respond to icy rescues. The CLPO along with other lake communities made donations to Denville Township to purchase these rescue suits. The CLPO and our whole community are grateful to our police and first responders for this rescue.

Please be safe and mindful of surroundings to avoid injury or risk. As always, skating and swimming is at your own risk. Please be careful and safe.
