CLCC President’s Message

Dear Cedar Lake Residents,

As we roll through the dog days of summer, we have much to look back on and even more to look forward to before summer’s end. This summer is shaping up to be one for the ages, it really proves what a special place we live in.

Just recently was the annual Cedar Lake Day, which takes place every year on the third Saturday of July. This event is a fun collaboration between the CLCC and the CLLA with board members from both groups combining efforts. The CLLA did a fantastic job arranging all the beach events including the across-the-cove and across-the-lake swims with great participation. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped plan the events and those who helped in the water watching over the swimmers. Afterwards everyone head over to the club house for the picnic and a great time was had by all. Many thanks to the volunteers who came down to help with setup, cooking, clean up, and all the planning done beforehand. It is always extra special when we have new members join in and see how much fun it is to both participate and volunteer at these events.

Cedar Lake teams are continuing to do well so far in Hub Lakes, with many of the teams having impressive seasons. The results came in for the track meet and the adults finished in 2nd Place, and the kids came in 3rd place. Thanks to Kim Luer for organizing, and congratulations on the outstanding performances. Both men’s and women’s volleyball, horseshoes, and softball teams are all towards the top of the standings.  Let’s hope next month I can report on a few championship titles. The swimming championship is coming up August 4th and 5th and as always it will be a very exciting weekend for our swimmers. Participation has been great across the board this season and will pay off big time in the overall Hub Lakes standings. Let’s bring the overall championship back to Cedar!

Our annual CedarFest BBQ and party will take place September 8th. This is surely an event you don’t want to miss, details are below in this issue of the Blurb, on our website, and on the Cedar Lake Facebook page. The band this year will be “Walkin’ the Boulevard” and the menu will include ribs, chicken, and clams along with the normal BBQ fare. A sign up will be posted for members who would like to pitch in and volunteer a few hours of their time. Many hands make light work during these big events.

In closing, I would like to welcome John Obeid to the CLCC board of directors, we look forward to working with you. Thanks to the other members who reached out about the board opening, we will let you know when additional slots are open. Anyone looking to help out for events or with the house and grounds committee feel free to reach out to any board member.

I hope all of you continue to enjoy the remainder of this summer and look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.

Yours truly,

Daniel Jackson

CLPO Update

Save the Date! The 93rd Annual Meeting of the stockholders of the Cedar Lake Property Owners, Inc. will be held at the Clubhouse on Friday, September 21, 2018. Your vote is important. In order to conduct business, a quorum is necessary which means a majority of stockholders (50% plus 1) must vote in person or by proxy. Stockholders will be receiving the Annual Report materials in late August and are asked to complete, sign and return their proxies even if you plan to attend the meeting.

Lifeguard Schedule, Beach Hours, Rules, & Regulations

Lifeguards will be on duty at the beaches with the following schedule:

August 6th – Labor Day

East Beach
Monday – Sunday: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

West Beach
Monday – Sunday: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

If necessary, due to staffing and scheduling limitations, both beaches may not always be fully staffed. At those times, the East Beach has priority for a lifeguard. Whenever lifeguards are not present all NJ State Bathing Regulations and CLPO rules will still apply.

As a reminder to all Cedar Lake beach going parents or supervisors of young children and of non-swimmers:

Young children and non-swimmers cannot be in the water by themselves. A parent or supervisor must be within arm’s length of these individuals at all times. Flotation devices, i.e. bubbles or swimmies, have been known to fail and do not make a non-swimmer a swimmer. Our lifeguards are not babysitters. Thank you for your cooperation in making this a fun, safe summer.

CLPO Membership tags are required at all times, including those times when lifeguards are not present at the beaches. Membership tags or guest tags are also required at the float or when boating and/or fishing.

Use of the beach for parties or other activities requires permission from the Water Safety Committee. Guest tags and additional lifeguards may be required for an additional fee. Please contact the CLPO Secretary for an application and more information at (973) 957-0204 or email: clpo2@optonline.net.

There is a no alcohol policy at the East and West Beaches. Please remind your guests of this policy as well.

Please be courteous to walkers and bike riders on our roads. Speeding and Cedar Lake
roads don’t mix. Slow down!

As a reminder, boats without 2018 tags are subject to removal from the Landings at
any time and a $100 redemption fee will be imposed. Lakefront property owners
should store their boats on their own property and not at a landing to provide space for
non-lakefront stockholders’ boats.

Stockholders are also reminded that ABSOLUTELY NO NON-RESIDENT BOATS ARE ALLOWED ON THE LAKE. This is strictly enforced to prevent the lake from contaminates being brought in from other waters. If you have used your boat, kayak or other watercraft in other bodies of water, the craft must be washed completely with a solution of one cup bleach to five gallons of water and then completely dry them out.

Event Recap

CLLA Happy Hour and Food Truck Friday!

On July 13th, The CLLA organized a fun Friday night at the clubhouse and opened the bar early for their specialty red Sangria drink! Jenn and Joe were serving up some cold beverages with smiles! What goes great with sangria??? empanadas!!! The Empanada Lady and Ice Cream Thai’m food trucks brought all the neighbors out for some delicious food and treats. It was a perfect summer night with lots of neighbors sharing stories and kids having some old fashioned fun! It was a memorable night and we look forward to organizing another future Food Truck Friday!

Cedar Lake Day

Cedar Lake Day 2018 was a another day down in the books to remember! The CLLA organized all the water activities for roughly 50 kids! That meant lots of candy and yellow ducks! One piece swim suits were the secret to success for the girls!  Swim across the cove and the lake brought back wonderful memories for the 70 adults that attended, of which many were kids way back when!

The CLCC provided quite the bbq spread with burgers and dogs and a sub! Neighbors brought a plenty of salads, sides and apps…and did we have desserts! The CLLA did some baking and provided lots of yummy treats! Awesome ribbons were awarded on the clubhouse steps, just like the old days!

Beach balls entertained the kids at the playground. Thank you to all that attended and all that helped make it a super day! Special thanks to Linda Dick who welcomed many of our new Cedar Lake neighbors and offered Cedar Lake wear for sale!

CLLA Tie-Dye Monday!

Twenty families came out to add a little flair to their wardrobes by participating in the second annual tie-dye event. This event was a revival of a past Cedar Lake favorite and was a big hit with kids of all ages. The biggest kid of all, Rick Everett, will look very stylish when he moves to Cape May this fall. He made beautiful shirts for both him and Mary. Thank you all for attending.

Stories in the Sand

Our own Miss Melanie from Denville Public Library delighted us Friday 7/27 with story time on the beach! The kids loved reading and acting out the books and the moms enjoyed some free babysitting. There was even a sand craft after the readings!
