CLCC President’s Message

Dear Cedar Lake Residents,

As 2018 Comes to a close and we continue into the Holiday season, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season on behalf of the Cedar Lake Community Club Board of Directors. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is enjoying the Holiday decorations popping up around the lake, especially the recently lit “Christmas Tree Island.”

November was a great month down at the clubhouse. The Photo contest was a huge success with lots of great entries. Congrats to all the winners and thanks to all who submitted photos and volunteered. If you missed out on “The Leftovers” party with Kevin Compton’s band, you missed out on a lot of fun. The music was excellent, the leftovers were delicious, and the bar was packed. The Ladies hosted another Paint n Pallet night and again the artists showed up in full force.

December has another full calendar of events for all Cedar Lakers to enjoy, check the dates below for the Cookie exchange and Santa Visit at the clubhouse. Caroling around the lake will be on the 23rd. I hope to see a good crowd spreading some last minute holiday joy around the lake. We’ll meet at the west side playground and end at the clubhouse for refreshments. Make sure you book your Christmas Eve Santa visits and check out the calendar and watch your email for more details on these events.

The kitchen project is in the final stages and will be fully operation any day now. Many thanks to all the folks who helped get this done by working late nights and weekends to complete this. The Pub will be moving down stairs for the winter starting this month, make sure to stop down and have a beverage by the fire.

In closing, I would again like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday season and thank you all for the support in continuing our great traditions here at Cedar Lake.

Yours Truly,

Daniel Jackson

Happy Holidays, Cedar Lake!

As we did last year, the CLLA has adopted the Dawn Center for Independent Living here in Denville for the holidays. This organization is a non-profit agency that provides support to persons with disabilities throughout their lifespan so they can achieve their highest level of independence in their community.

Holiday Express once again provided a fun 2-hour holiday party for the center on 12/1. Joe and I attended and served food and drinks, and danced with the young adults and teens. What a blast we had and it was especially sweet that many of them remembered us from last year’s party!

They have asked for Walmart and Amazon gift cards on their Giving Partner Wish List to help with the cost of buying supplies for their “game room” as well as their Art days. Last year, we gifted the karaoke machine and their consumers with disabilities have enjoyed using it for entertainment during their monthly Game Night.

This past October, I had the pleasure of introducing Sammy Fallon, one of Cedar Lake’s own, to the Dawn Center. He spent a few hours of his time working one to one with one of the Dawn Center participants painting and making string art. It was a fantastic experience for him and he was compassionate, patient and glad to be there!  I have shared some photos of his day there!

*We are still accepting donations for the Dawn Center; if you would like to donate, please drop your donation off to my home at 69 Watchtower Road or you can send payment through PayPal to cedarlakeladies@gmail.com.

As always, we thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Jennifer Hologounis

Event Recap

Halloween Pumpkin Carving

Kids and parents alike brought their pumpkins, creative minds, and carving skills to the clubhouse on October 28th for the CLLA’s annual pumpkin carving. Carving tools were supplied by the CLLA, although some residents opted to bring their own mechanical tools! Delicious, spooky treats were shared by all and we even celebrated a little one’s birthday with a neighborhood version of “Happy Birthday.” Everyone had a great time and we look forward to this event continuing next year.

Trunk or Treat!

Halloween this year was a real treat! The CLLA hosted their annual Trunk or Treat on October 31st at 4:30PM.  Kids and parents had a great time!  The event kicked off with a children’s parade around the clubhouse.  We had 15 cars participate this year!  Children enjoyed walking around and trick or treating at all the different cars.  Some highlighted themes include: Wizard of Oz, unicorns, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and even a scary giant spider inside a huge web!  Congratulations to Laurie Einstein and Maggie Liebig for winning the Cedar Lake Trunk or Treat Best Car for their Christmas themed car!
