CLCC President’s Message

Dear Cedar Lake Residents,

Welcome to the start of summer 2018 at Cedar Lake! I have a feeling you are all equally as excited as I am to be moving on from the cold weather into the sunshine.

I would like to start by expressing to you all how honored and excited I am to be taking on the role as President of the Cedar Lake Community Club. Many Thanks to Bob Vidal for all he has done the past three years. He has taken on many challenges and guided this club successfully for me to take on. Luckily for us all, Bob will remain on the board and help continue making this lake the greatest place to live and raise a family.

The current slate of officers for 2018 is as follows:

President: Daniel Jackson
Vice President: Michele Watson
2nd Vice President/Bar Chairman: Matt Miner
Treasurer: Tyler Young
Secretary: Janis Nixon Fols

Looking ahead to the next few months, many exciting events and activities are on the horizon. On June 2nd the Cedar Lake Fishing Club is hosting a Corn Hole Tournament at the clubhouse. There are still team spots available – will you be the first CL champion? It’s sure to be a fun time for players and spectators alike. Many of our sports teams are kicking off their season this month and are still actively looking for players. I can say from experience playing on these teams, whether it be softball, volleyball, swimming or horseshoes, you will create some great memories and friendships. Both Cedar Lake Day and the Newcomers Party have been scheduled. Make sure to check the calendar for those dates as well as any other events planned for this summer. As always the CLCC and CLLA are always looking for more volunteers to continue making our traditions new and old a success.

In closing my first president’s message, I look forward to meeting those that I don’t yet know. There is no better place than the CL pub or the floating dock to make new friends and enjoy the special piece of paradise that we live in. See you around the lake!

Yours Truly,

Daniel Jackson

CLCC Membership

As of the end of May, 150 families have joined the Cedar Lake Community Club. This is an addition of 20 more families since the end of April.  Thank you, and keep those completed membership forms coming!

The Board of Directors has noted that there are at least 10 families whose names are on sports rosters who have not yet joined the Club. If you could please send your dues in to the Membership Chairman, it would be greatly appreciated and would make it much easier for the coaches to include you in the game.

We have many new families this year, and almost all of them have already decided that the Community Club is a good deal and have paid their dues. We thank all the families who have joined, and we hope that this year we can break the 200 member mark! Please look on the CLCC website for information on membership and to download your membership form.

With our thanks,
The CLCC Board of Directors

Membership & Boat Tags

Boat tags (like membership tags) are required by Memorial Day weekend. Boats that do not have a 2018 boat tag are subject to removal from the Landings and a $100 redemption fee.

A Swim Program application for lessons and/or Cedar Lake Swim Team is also included in the mailing. If your child(ren) participates in swim lessons and/or the swim team, there is a required fee of $45 per child (up to $100 per family).

Lake Water Quality

This 2018 season, due to high rain fall and water temperatures in the spring the initial weed treatment would have occurred earlier in the season but had to be delayed slightly. The good news is that we now have fully recovered lake water level from the 2017 draw down. The Sonar Treatment that was applied a few weeks ago is now showing its effectiveness and plants are dying out as expected. As the plants die out, the algae may increase and cling to the dying plants. Aquatic Technology Company (our aquatic lake treatment applicator and consultant) was out on the lake last week and did treat the algae that was present. The condition we are experiencing here towards the end of May should subside in 2 weeks or so. AT will return for additional treatments. Unfortunately you cannot rush the decomposition rate and it will be more effective to wait a little longer to treat the algae that is there now. But AT is aware of the situation and like other seasons it is expected and should be temporary. Again, if we were able to treat a little earlier this stage that we are experiencing now may have already been behind us.

A Special Thank You

Many, many thanks to the recent work parties!

At the landings: families of Bastos, Policano, Gibbons, Marconi and Hall

Landings and new boats racks: Wayne Leonard, Chuck Femminella, Dan and Chris Jackson and Bob Plumb

Swim lanes: John Smith, Chris Aughey, Peter Didato and Greg Margeson

East Beach docks: Steve Kovacs, Chris Aughey and Billy Nowicky

** Important News **

Help needed at the beaches!

We are asking for volunteers to help check for membership tags at the East Beach. We do not want the lifeguards distracted from their primary job of watching swimmers in the water. Please respond if you can help. It can be for an hour and whenever you have time. It is especially helpful on Saturdays and Sundays. Please email cedarlakepropertyowners@gmail.com or call (973) 957-0204 to let us know when you can help.

School will be out soon and more kids will be on their bikes and walking to the beaches. Please be aware and drive slowly on the lake roads.

Standing water is breeding ground for mosquitos. If you are storing your boat at a landing or at your property, please make sure it is turned over to eliminate any standing water. Paddleboats are particularly susceptible to standing water in their bottom wells.

Thank you,

CLPO Board

Lifeguard Schedule, Beach Hours, Rules, & Regulations

(Early Summer Schedule – Memorial Day weekend and weekends only through June 25th)

Lifeguards will be on duty at the beaches with the following schedule:

East and West Beaches

Saturday: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Sunday: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

If necessary, due to staffing and scheduling limitations, both beaches may not always be fully staffed. At those times, the East Beach has priority for a lifeguard. Whenever lifeguards are not present all NJ State Bathing Regulations and CLPO rules will still apply.

As a reminder to all Cedar Lake beach going parents or supervisors of young children and of non-swimmers:

Young children and non-swimmerscannot be in the water by themselves. A parent or supervisor must be within arms’ length of these individuals at all times. Flotation devices, i.e. bubbles orswimmies, have been known to fail and do not make a non-swimmer a swimmer. Our lifeguards are not babysitters. It is the parent/supervisor’s responsibility to be within arms’ length of their young child or non-swimmers at all times while in they are in the water. Thank you for your cooperation in making this a fun, safe summer.

Use of the beach for parties or other activities requires permission from the Water Safety Committee. Guest tags and additional lifeguards may be required for an additional fee. Please contact the CLPO Secretary for an application and more information at (973) 957-0204 or email: clpo2@optonline.net.

Reminder: There is a no alcohol policy at the East and West Beach. Please remind your guests of this policy as well.

Swim Lesson Instructor and Swim Team Coaches

We are pleased to welcome Kara Zimmermann as swim instructor and head coach for Cedar Lake this upcoming summer. Kara is from Mountain Lakes and was an assistant coach. She was also a member of the Lakeland Hills YMCA team for many years. She has seven years of swim instruction experience and recently received her Water Safety Instructor Certification (WSI). She is a rising junior at Colby College and also swims for her college on the varsity team.

We are pleased that Jack Pfeil will be the assistant swim coach. He will be a senior at Morris Knolls High School and is a member of the varsity swim team. He has been on the Cedar Lake Swim Team for 12 years, a member of the Randolph YMCA team for 3 years and is currently on the Morris County Swim Club team. He has also taught swim lessons and coached at Morris County Swim Club for a year.

Both Kara and Jack are looking forward to meeting the parents and swimmers of the swim team on June 1 st at 7PM, for sundaes on the beach (weather permitting) to kick off season. Have some ice cream and meet your team mates. Non-swim team kids who might be interested in join are welcome.

Swim lessons will start Monday, June 25th. Please come at the start time you did last year and she will evaluate and move groups as needed. If you are new, please email amystan11@gmail.com to get the start time.
