CLCC President’s Message

Dear Cedar Lake Residents,

I am pleased to fill in for Dan Jackson this month as he takes a well-deserved vacation. As I write this message on the first day of autumn, I can smell the campfire and hear the sounds of the 2nd annual Campout at the Clubhouse through my open window. What a great place to be a kid! I’m reminded of how lucky I feel to have grown up here and to live here still. I have so many great memories of my childhood at Cedar Lake and love knowing that it goes on for generations.

Our annual CedarFest BBQ took place on September 8th and despite the iffy weather, we managed to end another summer with a great party! Due to some genetically modified eggs, the egg toss game took a lot longer and the eggs were tossed a lot farther than usual but eventually we had a winner. The East siders won the tug of war again. No further comment necessary. Thanks to all the volunteers, especially chef Devin DeMarco and his cooking crew. Great food, great music, the best people!

So many wonderful traditions have continued over the years and the creative people of Cedar Lake are coming up with new ideas for fun all the time! Just in the past month, we’ve had the boat regatta with dessert on the docks, CedarFest, movie night on the clubhouse deck, Sunday night football at the bar, the annual golf outing, and the campout. In October, the CLLA is hosting a Paint n Pallet event, Taco Night, the pumpkin carving party, and the beloved Trunk or Treat on Halloween at the clubhouse. Start working on your photography portfolio as the Cedar Lake photo contest is back this year! The Cedar Lake bar is open every Friday at 8:00 PM with the occasional dinner/happy hour starting at 6:00 PM. The next one is Taco Night on Friday, October 12th.

As usual, details for all of these events can be found in The Blurb, on the bulletin boards around the lake, on our Facebook Page, and in your email inbox. If you have an idea for a Community Club event, please reach out to any board member from the Community Club or Ladies Auxiliary and we will help you pull it off.

We have completed the planning stages of the clubhouse kitchen renovation. By the time this issue of The Blurb is published, the clean out and demolition of the existing facility will be substantially complete. We are expecting the full renovation to be finished by the end of November but of course the timeline can slip. The clubhouse remains available for rentals during the renovation without kitchen facilities. In addition, the CLCC and the CLLA continue to spruce up the clubhouse and the grounds. We are always looking for volunteers to help with various projects so reach out to a board member if you want to help.

Have you visited the Cedar Lake website www.cedarlakecc.com recently? Jon Sabel, our webmaster, has revamped the site which is now easier to navigate and packed with useful and interesting information, including some firsthand accounts of Cedar Lake history. Did you know the Cedar Lake Ladies Auxiliary (CLLA) was formalized in 1946? Its predecessor organization, the Women’s Club of Cedar Lake, worked for years to raise money to build the clubhouse, which was opened July 4, 1931.

Cedar Lake is particularly beautiful when the leaves turn and the air is crisp. I hope to see you all out and about, walking around the lake or down at the clubhouse. Happy autumn!

Yours truly,

Michele Watson
CLCC 1st Vice President

Event Recap

September Movie Night!

Despicable Me 3!  As quoted, “You ladies hosted a fun event!” Complete with pizza and snacks, the CLLA planned and hosted this fun family movie event on the deck of the clubhouse (which worked out well to contain the kids and the parents could socialize in peace). A perfect event to get the kids together now that school has started and the summer of 2018 is down in the books!  A big thank you to those who also supported the CLLA through our Cedar merchandise sale! And lastly, a big round of applause to the ladies for a great idea; we will look to do this again in the near future!

12th Annual Cedar Lake Sailing Cup Race

With warm temperatures, fair skies, and medium to light winds, four members of the Cedar Lake Sailing Club (CLSC) set out to complete the three race series that constitutes the Cup Race on Labor Day, 2018. The winner of the cup this year was Eric Bossard, who completed the series with two first and one second place finishes. Afterward, the Bossards once again hosted a wonderful lunch in their boathouse for the racers with family and friends. The cup itself will be returned to the clubhouse after a name plate update and a short display period at the winner’s residence.

2018 Campout at the Clubhouse

The 2nd Annual Cedar Lake Campout at the Clubhouse took place on Saturday, September 22nd after being postponed since June. Cedar Lake families came together to kick off the beginning of the fall season with food, laughs and a roaring campfire. A great time was had by all, and we hope you can join us when we do it again next year!
