CLCC President’s Message

Dear Cedar Lake Residents,

Welcome to March! It is hard to believe we are already here. Between the arctic blasts and the 60 degree weather, the lake looked just as confused as the rest of us. Despite Mother Nature’s best attempt to derail our plans we still managed to have a great month.

The Annual Super Bowl Party and Chili Cook Off was a great event and well attended. Despite a pretty lackluster game, our competitors brought their best performance. Gary Petrillo took home the Top Award for Critics Choice and Bob Vidal won 1st Place amongst voters. All of the chili submitted was excellent and had everyone going back for seconds. Thanks to Janis Nixon and Bill Heilig for running this annual event.

The CLLA hosted a Family Game Night and judging by the amount of happy kids coming down the stairs at the end of the night, it looked like a lot of fun was had.

March has a full calendar of events hosted by the CLCC and the CLLA. It kicked off with the annual Mardi Gras Masquerade Party on the 2nd. This event is always a blast and makes you feel like you are celebrating on Bourbon Street. On the 8th, the Ladies are hosting another “Paint n Pallet” but this time for the kids! Make sure you RSVP for this to reserve spots for your little ones.

The CLCC is hosting its annual St. Patrick’s Day Party on the 16th. This is always one of the best events of the year and Chef Devin is leading the kitchen crew again this year. If you attended last year, well…you know that the food is not something to miss out on. Wick-Hegarty’s team of step dancers will be making an appearance to provide some authentic Irish entertainment. Please RSVP to this event ASAP.

As always, the CLCC is looking for more volunteers to lighten the load. These events would not be possible without the hours dedicated by Cedar Lakers.

April is right around the corner and so begins the new CLCC membership year for 2019. Please make sure you get your membership forms in as soon as you can. Membership is our largest form of revenue and we rely on it to keep this great community going. If you have neighbors on the fence about joining, let us know and we would be happy to reach out to them about to discuss the benefits of joining the CLCC. If you are interested in volunteering with the CLCC, please feel free to reach out to any board member. We are always looking for new volunteers to lend a hand.

Until next month, let’s hope for warmer weather and an early spring. Hope to see you around.

Yours Truly,

Daniel Jackson

CLCC Membership

Dear Cedar Lakers,

As mentioned in last month’s issue of The Blurb, April 1st marks the beginning of the 2019-20 Cedar Lake Community Club membership year. In 2018, a record 181 families joined the Community Club, all enjoying the fun activities that the CLCC and CLLA made possible.

The CLCC and CLLA work together continuously to maintain the Clubhouse and grounds, keeping both a safe and clean place for our members to enjoy while also providing a low cost, convenient rental facility. Improvements made over the last few years include:

  • Complete renovation of the kitchen
  • Air conditioning
  • Free, high speed Wi-Fi network
  • High resolution projector and screen
  • Energy-efficient thermostats and lighting

Additional upgrades are planned, including a new driveway and parking lot with lights, new flooring upstairs and down, lights for the horseshoe pits, and safer barriers between the driveways and play areas.

The CLCC Board of Directors has voted to increase the dues from $125 to $140 per family for 2019. The rate for seniors will increase from $65 to $75. We hope that the community will understand the necessity of this increase. The cost of maintaining the Clubhouse and grounds continues to rise and we continuously seek to improve the facilities. Most, if not all, of this work is done with the hands-on efforts of the CLCC Board members and community volunteers, helping us to minimize expenses while keeping the building safe and in good working order.

In the spirit of improvement and in an effort to make the membership process as easy as possible, we are pleased to announce that—for the first time—an online payment option will be available for CLCC membership dues in 2019! Simply go to http://bit.ly/clcc-membership-2019 on your computer, tablet or smartphone and follow the easy steps to join the CLCC online. Secure online payments can be made via debit/credit card and eCheck (electronic bank transfer). A convenience fee of 3.5% plus $0.45 will be added to all credit/debit card payments and just $0.45 for eCheck payments. These fees are collected by the payment processor and do not go to the CLCC. You may also opt to pay via cash/check, in which case there is no fee and you will deliver your payment to Susan Ulversoy at 115 Cedar Lake East as in the past.

We are very happy to be able to present you with this new membership option and hope that you will enjoy the convenience it provides. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do no hesitate to reach out to us at membership@cedarlakecc.com.

We look forward to your renewed membership and participation in our activities and events! Go Cedar!

Sincerely,

The CLCC Board of Directors

2019 Chili Cook-Off/SuperBowl Event Recap

Our 12th Annual Chili Cook-Off/SuperBowl Event took place on February 3rd. Judging began at 5:00 PM and ended at 6:15 PM before the 6:30 PM kick-off. The Pub and the outer room were filled with residents and their guests who meticulously tasted each entry in our contest which vary in taste due to clever use of ingredients. The entries are all outstanding! It’s quite difficult to choose.

After judging ended, everyone enjoyed bowls of chili, hot dogs which can be made into chili dogs (or not), an Anthony & Sons 3-foot Italian Sub, and tortilla chips/salsa. Dan Lamphear made out-of-this-world cornbread warm from the oven (everyone wants your recipe, Dan!). Tony Ferriero had delivered to us a treat for our after-contest feast. For dessert we had delicious Red Velvet Cupcakes baked by resident Sallie Liberio. We also had cookies along with gluten-free cookies purchased at Starseed Bakery which is owned by Cedar Lake resident, Linda Beg.

At halftime, awards were presented to:

Gold Medal People’s Choice – Bob Vidal
Silver Medal People’s Choice – Gary Petrillo
Bronze Medal People’s Choice – Joanne DeCarolis

We had three “secret judges” who deliberated to award the 12th Annual Cedar Lake Chili Cook-Off Plaque to Gary Petrillo.

The “Snore Bowl,” as this year’s game between the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots has been dubbed, was low scoring and unexciting. In past years, the Clubhouse would, at times, seem to topple due to the loud yells and stomping of feet and fists!

Thank you to our contest entrants who make this event so enjoyable and to the residents and their guests who support us with their attendance!
